Mijn weekje met de supermooie, coole, houten E-bike  (#houtenEbike) begon heel zonnig, veranderde in stormachtig en eindigde regenachtig: een typisch Hollandse week dus.

Nog nooit zo vaak aangesproken en gefotografeerd, ook niet toen ik 20 was. Leukste compliment: ‘great bike, beautifull shoes!’ Deze fiets is een echte conversation starter, en aandacht gegarandeerd.

Er zijn vast veel FB-posts met likes en comments als ‘cool ride’ en ‘Holland: wooden shoes AND wooden bikes’.

Gaat ‘ie niet te hard?

Amsterdammers stelden hele praktische vragen: van welk hout is het gemaakt, is ‘ie duur, is ‘ie zwaar, gaat het niet te hard, doen de remmen het wel goed? Zijn het extra sterke remmen? Is het hout behandeld tegen de regen. Is het wel eerlijk hout? Hoe werkt de techniek?

En opmerkingen als “ik ken ook iemand die een houten fiets ontwerpt.”

Zetje in de rug

Ik vond het een super leuke ervaring; ik had wel eens eerder op een elektrische fiets gereden maar die vond ik eerlijk gezegd doodeng. Een klein beetje ”gas” geven en je stond gelijk aan het eind van de straat, niet echt veilig in Amsterdam. Maar deze houten E-bike geeft je gewoon een klein zetje in de rug. Heel relaxt. En hoewel ik elke dag fiets, had ik na een weekje E-bike zowaar een beetje spierpijn. Ongemerkt, door dat zetje in de rug, fiets je harder dan normaal, want je doet –met hulp- het meeste werk toch echt zelf. je gaat dan extra lekker bij bijvoorbeeld een brug op of bij tegenwind, door die elektrische ondersteuning.

Vrouwvriendelijk

Voor de looks waren handige features zoals bagagerek en transporter er afgehaald en dat is voor vrouwen niet echt handig. Ik begrijp sowieso niet hoe mannen dat doen zonder tas, ik heb altijd een (te zware) handtas bij me en ik ben te ijdel voor een rugzak, dus dat was eventjes wennen. Ook het brooks-zadel is mooi, maar met een rokje niet te doen. Maar een zadel is zo verwisseld dus dat is geen ‘deal breaker.’

Wat een voordeel bleek van deze houten E-bike, is dat het stuur recht is en de fiets heel stabiel is, zowel tijdens het fietsen als in stilstand. Daardoor konden zware boodschappentassen aan het stuur hangen zonder in de weg te hangen en kon ik zonder zwalken toch gewoon fietsen.

Mocht ik ooit behoefte hebben aan gemotoriseerd vervoer, dan verkies ik de houten E-bike boven een (E) scooter!

Mountain Lion upgrade for women

Just bought, downloaded and installed Mountain Lion.

Here some findings: If you are about to buy Mountain Lion too - check this link first to see if your favourite apps are compatible with this new Apple Operating System.  

Can your computer handle it?
Oh, and your mac should be at least a 10.6.8 version to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Why on earth Apple names its OS after big cats and doesn't mention it on your computer once its installed beats me...

Hear this Apple: we want a nice picture of the cat your version resides under, right under the apple icon!

So you if you want to know which operating system you have running on your mac: click on the apple-icon in the top left corner of your screen. Check 'About this Mac" and check the version number.

Then go to this wiki-link to see with which big cat that version number corresponds. You need that to check whether you first need to upgrade to a newer version before upgrading to Mountain Lion, or if you need to buy the Mountain Lion osx via the apple store.  

Still willing and able to install Mountain Lion?
 Well - that's really easy, but be sure to back-up your files first. Use dropbox, iCloud, Time Machine or discs if you have to. I didn't experience any problems (so far) but its better to save then to be sorry... Then its just click install and continue. Once its done, it automatically restarts and tadaaah - you have a Mountain Lion based mac.

Whats' new? 
Not to fancy new stuff - basically a performance improvement I suppose - but what ever new - it could use some colour! You don't notice much differences - but the finder looks very drab - grey greyer greyst. Bleh. The dock (where you find all your nice little app-icons) is dull too.

Apple favours its own applications and has placed them under an icon called 'launch pad' (looks like a rocket). I don't see the point of this, but Apple does: the colour of the apps look bright and shiny under launch pad. You'll notice that with some applications, you get the notification that you need Java SE 6 runtime. Just download and install and then your app should work again. I tested it on CyberDuck - and it works.
